Social media often gets criticized for causing mental health problems, addiction and health problems, however when it is used responsibly (not dismissing the mental health stuff of course) it can be a great tool for communication and information. Social media helps us strengthen connections, help people find support, opportunities and helping people stay in touch.

Social media and the Internet help people stay in touch and maintain contact through life's various changes and difficulties while making it accessible and easy to use. Studies like ones done by the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health report that people who routinely check into social media and interact on a healthy schedule tend to have elevated moods and better social well-being and connections.

Social media creates educational and professional opportunities while allowing people to share knowledge and connect with people all across the globe! Social media helps small businesses reach out and advertise, the American Public University states, and it shows that throughout the COVID pandemic, social media was what kept many small businesses afloat.

I don't think social media is perfect, but it shouldn't be outright condemned, it is a force for good when placed in the right hands, and is fantastic for creating connections and proving it's worth to modern society.

  1. Although social media may have its upsides I have to say that it still is something that should be heavily monitored. Ever since the beginning of social media there has always been a dark side to it. One of the major issues was talking to complete strangers who more likely than not were up to no good. These people could hack, scam, or even steal all your information. Because of it not being monitored properly lots of people were hurt. Additionally, social media is a breeding ground for grooming and harassment you never know who it is your talking to online no matter how convincing their profile may be, and if the proper protection isn’t put in place almost anyone is in the position to get hurt and fall victim to online predators. As fun as social media may be the dangers often outweigh the benefits.
